The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
Our military hospital remains open and we’re continuing to provide healthcare services. Scheduled appointments and procedures are proceeding as planned, and new appointments continue to be booked. Getting Care

Appointments & Referrals

To make an appointment, log in to the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal.

For more information, see the MHS GENESIS Frequently Asked Questions page.

You'll need a referral for any care your primary care manager doesn't provide, such as urgent, preventive, mental health, and specialty care. Find out more about how to obtain the necessary referral and authorization.

Access to care

If you need to get care at Kadena Air Base, the priorities for getting appointments are identified in Department of Defense policy and are listed below:
  • Active duty service members
  • Active duty family members enrolled in TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Young Adult – Prime Option
  • Foreign service members
  • Newborns overseas who are 120 days old and whose parent(s) is/are empaneled to the military hospital or clinic.
All others can get care if space is available after Kadena Medical Clinic has met the health care needs of the categories listed above within DOD access standards. Patients seeking Space Available can call the 18th Medical Group’s appointment line after 10 a.m. JST at Japanese cell number 098-960-4817, or DSN 630-4817. Space Available-eligible patients include:
  • Active-duty family members enrolled in TRICARE Select or TRICARE Young Adult – Select Option
  • Retired service members and their eligible family members
  • DOD civilians and contractors
All patients, including those listed for space-available care, can continue to fill your prescriptions at our pharmacy. See the 18th Medical Group’s Space A policy.
